Just as parents need to commit to the ongoing musical journey of the child so too does the teacher. When the teacher takes on a student this is a deeply significant step – the teacher is a link to the great world of music and is initiating the child and their family into this world. This is a specific initiation into a specific form – the classical guitar.

The guitar has a rich musical tradition and this tradition is embodied in the teacher. The teacher honours their teachers, and Dr Sinichi Suzuki, by introducing the child to the world of Classical Guitar.

In this the teacher is responsible for:

• Nurturing a love and commitment to refined expression
• Teaching and supporting the parent to be an effective assistant for the child
• Teaching the child how to play with beautiful tone, technique and interpretation
• Extending the child and parent’s musical horizons by involving them in wider Suzuki and Music community event
