Guitariacs – The Concept

This is a hub studio for Suzuki Guitar Teachers. The name Guitariacs came out of a funny conversation with one of my students, Ainsleigh Eadie, in 2003. It is a play on words linking ‘guitarist’ with ‘maniac’. It usage means an enthusiast for the classical guitar.

A sense of community is essential to the Suzuki Talent Education method. The guitariacs are members of the Suzuki guitar studios on the Sunshine Coast. They get together regularly to celebrate music and join in other activities. The shared support and camaraderie is essential in maintaining enthusiasm and deepening learning through a range of teaching styles and peer activities.

Essentially it seeks to weave guitar into the life-long learning of children and their families. To do so we need to make music in general and the guitar in particular:
  • Accessible
  • Fun
  • Relevant
  • Exciting
  • Challenging
The vision for Guitariacs is that any child and their family involved in the programme should be playing daily, learning, listening and sharing, linking learning to other subject areas, applying their learning to their own lives and using what they have learnt to bring joy and peace into the world.

This is a broad agenda which is essentially ethical and spiritual – we want to foster an environment that allows our children to grow into good, happy and engaged adults. The Suzuki music approach is an ideal vehicle for this.
